Braided Flower Pot

Make your flower pot special with braided decor.

Estimated Time: 3 hours

What you’ll need:

  • Tweezers

  • Beauty scissors

  • Hot glue gun and glue gun sticks

  • Beads

  • Plastic flower pot (look for one with small openings across the bottom for best results)

  • Braiding hair

  • Towel

  • Dish soap

  • Water

  • Small duck bill clip

Clean your canvas

Wash the outer surface of your flower pot with dish soap. Rinse and dry with a towel.

Start your braid

Choose your braid size and separate one full section for the beginning of the braid that match the size you want. Gather the hair and clamp with the duck bull clip, while leaving 1-2 inches hanging loose on one end, and the rest of the hair on the other end.

Attach your braid

Braid the long end hanging from the duck bill clip. After you have braided down 8-10 inches, plug in your hot glue gun. Once you get near the end of the bundle/where the braid starts to get smaller, begin attaching the braid. Lay an inch of glue parallel and flush to the top of the flower pot, and place the beginning of the braid onto the glue. Press down. Continue glueing in small 2 inch intervals for the rest of the braid except the last three inches of the braid.

Feed in additional hair

Separate out sections to feed into the attached braid for extending the braid length and maintaining the braid size. Continue braiding and glueing down directly above the lower glued braids onto the flower pot. Cover the loose end of the first braid with the braid glued and wrapped around and shifted up to go to the next “row” on the flower pot.

Add beads

Slide your desired amount of beads onto the braid wherever you would like to add additional decor. For a section with beads, ensure there is glue under the braid in the part directly before and directly after the beads.

Finish braids

Once you reach the bottom edge of the flower pot, curve the braid inward to the center of the bottom side (the openings allows you to do so without mkaing a leaning pot sitting on top of a braid). Glue the last of the braid to the bottom side and cut the braid.

Trim the braids

With your beauty scissors, hold up the flower pot and trimmer any stray hairs sticking out from the braids.

And you are done!
