What makes Hair Without Harm® lighweight braiding hair?

Hair Without Harm® is the queen of lightweight braiding hair. But, how do we make it so lightweight? With years of materials science that prioritizes your needs for braiding hair.

First, we start with better materials.

Our braiding hair fibers are derived from corn. Corn is milled and fermented to form solid pellets, and these pellets are heated and pulled out into individual strands of braiding hair.

Compared to the plastic pellets used to create synthetic braiding hair, our corn pellets are lower in density, meaning there is less mass per individual strand of Hair Without Harm® compared to an individual strand of synthetic braiding hair.

But, the difference between those numbers is pretty small. That can’t be the only difference, right?

Correct! It is not just the material: it is how we design our braiding hair strands, too.

Synthetic braiding hair is dense AND has very little room for air space. That means all the weight of each and every strand of synthetic braiding hair will pull or sit on your real hair underneath.

Hair Without Harm® braiding hair strands have microscopic spaces for air on the sides of each hair strand, giving your hair breathing room on every single braid. Think of it like sitting 25 lbs of weight on one point versus distributing the same amount weight across multiple points with spaces in between.

Why does lightweight braiding hair matter to me?

Braids require tension. That tension combined with heavy, synthetic braiding hair means thinning edges, breakage, and, in extreme cases, traction alopecia (especially if you wear braids often).

How does Hair Without Harm® help with braids? Our braiding hair is three times lighter than synthetic braiding hair and leads to

  • 3x lighter hairstyles to reduce neck and back pain, particularly for styles that requires lots of braiding hair

  • 3x less tension on your edges and the rest of your hair

  • 3x reduction in hair breakage when you tak eyour braids down
